Warhammer Online to Launch September 18

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning
EA announced that the final release date for Warhammer Online will be September 18. Yet another fantasy MMO is being thrown at us. Yawn… right? Maybe. I’m cautiously optimistic that Warhammer might not be another WoW wanna-be.
What impressed me about EA’s Warhammer presentation and trailor at E3 was the integration of seige weapons into the PvP interface. Of course, this is not the first time that siege weapons have been used in an MMO, but the twitch-based targeting method, when used on a battlefield, seems to provide the player with a unique challenge. What I also liked about the presentation is that Warhammer appears to be organized to promote truly grand battles in an MMO. This would be in the spirit of the original table top game that I played for a while back in the day. I personally like the prospect of burning down your rival’s cities. You can view G4’s interview with the lead designer here.
The G4 public commentary seems to show that gamers are divided about the game. I don’t blame them. After WoW gamers have been routinely betrayed by MMOs pushed out ahead of time or otherwise modified to mimick WoW, but failing miserably. SWG comes to mind. Anyway, here are some of my favorite comments:

Definate pass

Everyone is now going to be centralized and all have the same goal….rather then being torn between 3 cities.
Once they get thier feet wet, the other cities will come!
This game is going to Rule all
